The New Republic honored in the 18th Annual Webby Awards

We’re excited to announce that The New Republic has been selected as an Official Honoree in the 18th Annual Webby Awards in the News category. Alley Interactive is the only agency in the Nominee and Honoree lineup named for work on a major media news brand.

Can you leverage open source platforms, once relegated to the world of personal bloggers, to relaunch some of the biggest sites in media? The team’s recent work with The New Republic proves that you can.

The team led The New Republic through a full site rebuild and rebrand in 2013, after the magazine was bought by Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes. The team handled a complete site overhaul, including the creation of a new mobile app and the implementation of audio versions of the content. The launch in January 2013 was a success, garnering over 100 million page views in the first twenty-four hours.

The New Republic was a selected Honoree among other top news media organizations, including Frontline, CNN.com, BBC News Online, Al Jazeera America and NPR.

Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, Interactive Advertising & Media, Online Film & Video, Mobile & Apps, and Social. The Websites & Mobile honorees were selected based on excellence across content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity and overall experience. This year the competition was especially intense: The Webby Awards received nearly 12,000 entries from fifty states and sixty countries worldwide.
